Digha Beach, 10th November 2011, 06:09 AM IST

I am standing at Digha Beach for the very first time, utterly mesmerized by the mammoth sea before me. The sheer vastness of the ocean stretches out endlessly, its power and aggression palpable with each crashing wave. It’s a thrilling experience that leaves me breathless, an intensity that mere words can hardly capture. For some, my awe might seem silly, especially those who see the sea as familiar as an evening stroll in their garden. But despite feeling like a lake fish in this vast ocean, I can't help but be amazed by this spectacular sight and the profound experience it brings.

The first view is deceiving, misleading anyone about the true attitude of the sea. The ocean is a force of nature, unpredictable and surprising at every moment. It’s undisciplined yet in complete control, unlike us humans, who often strive for order but lack the sea's inherent grace and command.

But everything in life feels incomplete without sharing it with my best friends. I cannot imagine my life without them; the thought alone paints a bleak, horrible picture. All the delightful experiences here are made complete because of my friend Gulabo's company. Even though his excitement isn't as intense as mine—since he is no stranger to the sea—he makes a commendable effort to keep my enthusiasm unaffected. His presence adds a layer of joy to this already incredible adventure.

Let me tell you more about Gulabo (name changed). Known to me since 2000, our friendship is one of the most wonderful aspects of my life. Ajay plays multiple roles: sometimes just a friend, other times an elder brother I look up to. He is calm and composed, yet street-smart, with an attitude that can deceive those who don’t know him well. Warm and caring, Ajay is often an emotional fool, challenging societal norms with his unorthodox views. His courage to defy conventions is one of the many reasons I admire him.

Enough about Gulabo for now; words could never fully describe his importance in my life.

Let’s return to the experience.

The morning breeze, carried by the waves, is both soothing and eye-opening. It makes me realize the bigger picture of life, making me regret the petty things we often worry about. The ambiance here is amazing, with only the taste of seawater being the exception. I regret not having better swimming skills, which would have doubled the fun. Ajay, however, is in his element, often scaring me with his daring stunts in the sea. Sometimes he stands on his hands in the water, at other times he swims deep into the ocean. Once, he even let me stand on his shoulders as he walked through the water, making my heart leap into my mouth. Despite the fear, it was incredibly fun and exhilarating.

The sky has never looked so blue. Who says life has an end? Looking at this endless view, I don't think so. The ocean itself seems to say, "Boss! I don't have an end. I am rather endless. I never get old, and the day-by-day excitement of my dance speaks louder than words."

As the day progresses, the magic of the sea continues to captivate me. The endless horizon and the rhythmic dance of the waves instill a sense of timelessness, a reminder of the vastness of nature and the triviality of our daily concerns. This experience at Digha Beach, enhanced by the companionship of my best friend, Ajay, is something I will cherish forever. It's not just a visit to the beach; it's a profound realization of life's grandeur and the joy of sharing it with someone who means the world to you.
